There are plenty of fields of science that either require or recommend certifications for certain jobs or career paths.
Below is a list of several of those certifications for science, the field they apply to and where you can obtain them.
1. Environmental Science – CES Examination
This test requires a bachelor’s degree in an environmentally related discipline, or three years of experience in the field per year of degree. It is a one-and-a-half hour test that has questions involving chemistry, toxicology, biology, industrial hygiene, risk assessment and prevention, earth science, regulations and definitions, and professional practice and ethics. 2. Soil Science – APSS Certification
The Associate Professional Soil Scientist certification requires you to take the Fundamentals of Soil Science exam. The minimum requirement to qualify to take this exam is a B.S. in soil science or a related field. However, you can take this exam as soon as you graduate. The Soil Science Society of America offers other certifications through their website.
3. Laboratory Animal Technologist – LATG Exam
If you are interested in becoming a certified animal care technician, the LATG is just one of many exams you can take. There are many ways you can qualify to take this exam; the least education required is a high school degree or GED paired with five years of experience; the most is any BA or BS degree paired with three years of lab experience. 4. Pathologist – ASCP Board of Certification
If you are looking to be certified as a pathologist, look no further than the American Society of Clinical Pathology. There are several different certifications depending on what you want to do. Certifications include Technician, Technologist/Scientist, Specialist, and Diplomate. Within each certification there are subcategories that you can take exams for. 5. IT Certifications – MCPD
The Microsoft Certified Professional Developer credential is a solid certification to further your career in IT. This certification is specifically designed to better measure real-world skills for developers and programmers. This certification requires several exams, and Microsoft offers several other certifications for IT professionals; many of which can be found here.
