In addition to being one of the top STEM colleges for diversity, Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, was 11th in the 2017 edition of Best Colleges in Regional Colleges of the Midwest. Although Loras is a Catholic liberal arts college, its administration describes the college as an inclusive community from many backgrounds and experiences. Intercultural programs there support an understanding of cultural diversity and celebrates the differences in both the college and community of Dubuque. A program called ‘Dutalk” was started at the suggestion of students and faculty to assist in learning skills in valuing inclusion. The student enrollment of 1,462 is 48 percent female. The student-faculty ratio is 12:1 and 44.5 percent of the classes have fewer than 20 students. A wide variety of undergraduate programs include STEM majors of biochemistry, biology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. Loras College boasts that 97 percent of graduates are employed two years after graduation. Tuition costs are $30,628, but 100 percent of the students received some sort of financial assistance in 2016.
